Adult Protective Services (Abuse Reporting)

There are several ways you can report the abuse of a senior or an adult with a physical disability in the Lane County Area.

Senior and Disability Services (S&DS) is responsible for responding to all allegations of abuse or neglect involving persons 65 years or older and people with physical disabilities 18 years or older. S&DS is also responsible for investigating allegations of abuse or neglect involving residents of licensed care facilities and individuals living in their homes.

  • Neglect

  • Verbal or emotional abuse
  • Involuntary seclusion
  • Wrongful restraint
  • Sexual abuse
  • Abandonment
  • Self-neglect

What We Do

  • Receive reports of abuse, neglect, or self-neglect
  • Conduct unannounced interviews with the alleged victim, alleged perpetrator, and relevant witnesses
  • Provide and document risk assessment of alleged victims
  • Obtain and review any available documentary or physical evidence
  • Determine the facts of the case, based on the available evidence
  • Provide appropriate resources for victim safety
  • Conclude whether the majority of the evidence indicates that the incident occurred and whether abuse or neglect is substantiated, unsubstantiated, or inconclusive

Anyone can report abuse. You can report it for yourself or for someone else. The reporter's name is kept confidential and you do not have to provide your name when making a report of abuse.
