Greenhouse Gas Reduction Planning

The Oregon Sustainable Transportation Initiative (OSTI) is an integrated statewide effort to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from transportation while creating healthier, more livable communities and greater economic opportunity. The effort is the result of several bills passed by the Oregon Legislature, and it is designed to help the state meet its 2050 goal of reducing GHG emissions by 75 percent below 1990 levels.

Scenario planning is the primary method recommended by the Oregon Legislature to plan for ways to reduce transportation-related GHG emissions. In scenario planning, multiple scenarios with differing land use and transportation assumptions are compared to a 'no change' future, and the outcomes are measured.

Central Lane Scenario Planning

Central Lane MPO responded to the OSTI by working with its partner agencies to meet the state goal of reducing per capita greenhouse gas emissions from light-duty travel by 20% by 2035.
