Health and Transportation

Our transportation system can have a dramatic impact on community health. The Central Lane MPO is working to include health considerations in planning and programming for our region. The MPO partnered with Lane County Public Health to conduct a Health Impact Assessment (HIA) as part of the Central Lane Scenario Planning process in 2015. A HIA is a framework for understanding how a program, project, or policy decision could impact health using local public health data and research. The HIA found that the strategies identified in the Cental Lane Scenario Planning process may improve the region's health by increasing physical activity, reducing overall traffic collisions, and improving air quality.
